Thanks to the mass mobilization around the globe, the UN security council again voted overwhelmingly in favor of an immediate ceasefire in spite of bullying, intimidation, and propaganda. Once again, the sole veto came from the United States.

In desperation and ever increasing global isolation, Israel, supported by the US, continues to escalate the genocidal war on Palestinians in Gaza. For months now, Israeli occupation forces have cut off all internet and telecommunications connectivity to Gaza, have been carpet bombing entire neighborhoods even more ferociously and indiscriminately than ever, and are now attacking Rafah, the last refuge for millions of Palestinian children, women, and men. Leadership in Israel are promoting, even celebrating the "voluntary migration" (read: forced expulsion) of Palestinians from the Gaza strip altogether. The campaign in Rafa is catastrophic and without a ceasefire at least 58,000 additional Palestinians will be killed. If there is escalation, the number grows to 78,000 (source: gaza-projections.org).

We have been watching helplessly, day in and day out, as genocide and ethnic cleansing unfold before our eyes in real time. Meanwhile, the powers that be either stand by and do nothing or actively enable and encourage such bigoted cruelty and deadly violence. Our nation is complicit and blood is on our hands.

Israel’s genocidal war on Palestinians, supported militarily and politically by the US and major European powers, is undermining the legitimacy of international law and it is further widening the political divide within the international community. The conduct of the US, UK, and EU further demonstrates what much of the world sees as “double standards” and “hypocrisy” with regard to the selective application of international law.

As an elected official of a democracy that purportedly upholds human rights and respect for the rule of law, you must recognize that silence and inaction at a time of genocide is complicity. Act now, with utmost urgency. Palestinian lives depend on it, and so does the whole system of international law, the absence of which will result in so many more abuses across the world.

Take immediate action and strive to:

- Impose an immediate, durable, and sustained ceasefire, as the majority of Americans seek
-Ensure that Israel abide the immediate demands of the ICJ
- Implement the call for an immediate, continuous, sufficient and unhindered provision of essential goods and services to civilians throughout the Gaza Strip
- Reject the US-Israel axis plans for forced transfer of Palestinians within Gaza and from Gaza to Sinai, Egypt.
- Impose a comprehensive military-security embargo on Israel, as was done to apartheid South Africa.
- Ensure UN protection for the 2.3 million Palestinian civilians trapped under siege in Gaza.

Doing so is the only moral course of action.
